Air quality is crucial in maintaining public health, especially in Australia, where seasonal events like bushfires and pollen storms can severely impact the environment and people’s well-being. An air quality monitor app helps individuals stay informed about the risks posed by poor air quality, allowing them to take necessary precautions, especially for those with respiratory conditions like asthma or allergies. Australians can reduce their exposure to harmful pollutants and protect their health by understanding the air we breathe.
To help Australians monitor air quality, a group of scientists developed an air quality monitor app. This app shows air quality, temperature, and pollen. Users can also input their symptoms to the app, which can later alert them about the triggering factors of the symptoms.
AirRater Project
AirRater is a unique air quality monitor mobile app designed to provide real-time monitoring of environmental factors such as air quality and weather conditions. Its user-centric approach sets it apart. The app allows individuals to monitor the air and its effects on their health.
The app tracks various environmental data, including air quality, smoke, temperature, and pollen levels, while allowing users to log symptoms like asthma, allergies, and fever. By collecting this information, the app helps users make informed decisions about outdoor activities, reducing health risks during poor air quality. Also, users’ input will help the app forecast to bring even more accurate information.
With AirRater, users can:
- Monitor air quality and weather conditions in their area in real time.
- Log their health symptoms and track patterns.
- Receive notifications on air quality warnings and health advice.
- View maps of affected areas to understand broader environmental impacts.
Before and After: The Development Journey
Before Upscalix’s involvement, the AirRater app faced several challenges. Users were experiencing issues with Notifications, Location/Map functionality, the Symptoms tracking feature, and the Summary menu. The notifications wouldn’t appear on the user’s app, while the location/map wouldn’t move even when the users are in different places. Additionally, the client wanted to integrate new features, such as Acknowledgment and updated Terms and Conditions.

To resolve these issues and add new features, we use React and Capacitor, ensuring a responsive and user-friendly interface that will make users feel comfortable and at ease. On the other hand, we use Ruby on Rails on the backend to handle data processing and app functionality efficiently.
After Upscalix worked on this air quality monitor app, all issues were successfully resolved, and the new features were implemented. The app now functions smoothly, providing an enhanced user experience for both Android and iOS users. This successful resolution of issues should reassure you of our commitment to quality and our ability to deliver the best possible results.
